Gardai slam beach goers who 'totally ignored' official advice on warm weekend

Gardai in Wicklow handed out dozens of fines at the weekend after drivers "totally ignored" advice when enjoying the sun.

People visiting the Sally Gap, Brittas Bay and Magheramore were all warned to park safely and not block off roads.

A garda spokesperson said on Sunday morning: "Gardaí at Wicklow are again appealing to motorists visiting beaches or the uplands today to think of other road users, locals and pedestrians when visiting.

"Parking very busy in Brittas Bay, Magheramore since 8am, approximately 30 FCPN's already issued and one car towed so far."

They later added: "As public health regulations continue to be reduced and activity begins to normalise, An Garda Síochána continues to remind the public of the ongoing public health guidelines, which include not to gather in large groups, maintain social distancing and wearing of face coverings in crowded public spaces.

"Please respect others when parking and remember that the emergency services and locals need access to entrances and driveways. There was some areas today where this advice was totally ignored. Offending drivers will receive FCPN'S and others were towed. Photo shows Roundwood to Sally Gap road where 22 notices were issued to drivers."
