A man has died after a road crash in Limerick.
The man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene after a two-car collision on the M7 motorway in Lisnagry last night.
The crash – which took place just after 9pm – involved a car and a lorry, with the driver of the car killed in the accident.
He was treated for his injuries at the scene but tragically died.
The road is still closed to traffic as Gardai conduct forensic examinations, with diversions in place in the area this morning.
Gardai are now appealing for witnesses to come forward, and anyone who has camera footage (including dash-cam) is being urged to contact investigators.
The man's body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, with a post-mortem exam to follow.
A Garda spokesperson said: "At approximately 9:10pm Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted to a two vehicle collision on the M7 Motorway, Eastbound at Richill, Lisnagary, Co. Limerick.
"The collision involved a car and a lorry. The occupant of the car, a man in his 40’s was treated at the scene for injuries but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. No other injuries are reported.
"The deceased has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
"The crash site has been preserved for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators this morning. The road is closed to traffic and diversions are in place.
"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward and also to any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time, to make it available to investigators.
