Gardai share photo of wrecked car after driver fails roadside test in Westmeath

A driver was arrested after they were involved in a crash and failed a roadside test in Westmeath on Thursday.

Gardai shared a photo of a battered black car which had significant damage to the hood, front lights and bumper.

The picture on the official Garda Traffic Twitter account showed the hood of the car was crumpled, one light was completely smashed and bits of the vehicle lay strewn around the road.

A spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Westmeath attended the scene of this RTC earlier today.

"Driver of this vehicle failed a roadside test. Driver arrested as a result. Never ever drink and drive."

Meanwhile, another driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving in Co Tipperary.

Gardaí in Cahir stopped a car near Clonmel last night after their mobility app revealed the car was not taxed.

A spokesperson said: "The driver tested positive for cocaine and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. A number of bald tyres were also observed."
