Gardai have seized more than €800,000 of cocaine after a vehicle was stopped and searched in Kildare this afternoon.
The find was made as part of a multi-agency operation by officers attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), Kildare Divisional Drugs Unit and the Revenue Customs Service.
The operation was carried out as part of ongoing investigations targeting those suspected of involvement in organised crime.
During the search, 11.6kg of suspected cocaine worth an estimated €812,000 was discovered.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested and is being held at Naas garda station.
A Revenue spokeswoman said: "Today, as part of an intelligence led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 11.6kgs of cocaine with an estimated value of €812,000 following the search of a vehicle in the Naas area of Kildare.
"The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Kildare Divisional Drugs Unit.
"A 39-year-old man was arrested by gardai and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Naas Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing."
