Gardai seize firearm and baseball bat at north Dublin home and arrest man after searching car on busy Dublin street

Gardai seized a number of weapons, including a firearm and a baseball bat, at a north Dublin home after a car was stopped and searched on a busy city centre street.

Officers pulled the car over on Westmoreland Street shortly before midnight yesterday.

An extendable baton, some ammunition, and a balaclava were found in the car leading gardai to do a follow up search on a house in Dublin 11.

A firearm, baseball bat, another extendable baton, and other weapons were discovered and seized in the home.

A man in his 60s was arrested and charged. He will appear in court on 23 December.

A garda spokesman said: "A man in his 60s was arrested in relation to this seizure and was detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Pearse Street Garda station. He has since been charged in relation to this incident and is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on the 23rd December 2021."
