Gardai seized a "defected" car after they discovered the driver had modified the window controls with a light switch usually found in a house.
Clare Roads Policing Unit stopped the car after being alerted to it due to an excessively loud exhaust and several other apparent defects.
The vehicle was seized, examined and found to be "dangerously defective".
A garda spokesperson said: "Clare RPU stopped this vehicle with an excessively loud exhaust and a number of obvious defects. Vehicle was seized, examined and found to be dangerously defective. The driver had also replaced the window controls with a light switch. Not the brightest idea."
The news comes after four children were found in a boot during a multi-agency garda checkpoint earlier this month.

Monaghan Road's Policing Unit were conducting a number of checkpoints when one family was stopped travelling on their holidays.
The family, travelling in a jeep, had luggage on the rear seat, with four children found to be sitting in the boot area.
They were not wearing seatbelts.
The family were stopped until second vehicle arrived, and they then continued on the journey safely.
A Fixed Payment Notice was issued.
