Gardai seize cars at Covid-19 checkpoints in Wicklow and Dublin

Gardai seized two vehicles at Covid-19 checkpoints today after they discovered one motorist with a long out-of-date NCT and another with no insurance.

A driver had their car impounded by gardai after turning away from a Covid-19 checkpoint in Rathnew in Wicklow.

When they were subsequently stopped, officers discovered that the vehicle's NCT had expired over a year ago.

Sharing the photo of the event on Twitter, gardai wrote: "Motorist stopped after turning from a Covid-19 checkpoint in Rathnew, Co Wicklow. NCT expired for over 12 months. Car impounded. #StayAtHomeAndStaySafe #PhysicalDistancing #StayAtHome"

Meanwhile, another vehicle was seized by the Dublin Metropolitan Roads policing unit at a checkpoint on the Celbridge Road today.

Gardai discovered the motorist had no insurance.

A spokesperson said: "DMR West Roads Policing Unit conducted a Covid-19 checkpoint this morning on the Celbridge Road.

"A vehicle was seized for no insurance using the Garda mobility device. Court proceedings to follow."
