Gardai seize alcohol and cigarette factory that could have cost exchequer €25million

Gardai have seized a cigarette and alcohol bottling factory that could have cost the exchequer a staggering €25million.

The massive find came from the search of warehouse in Knockbridge, Co Louth early this morning.

Nobody has been arrested but gardai say investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Following a joint intelligence led operation by the Cross Border Joint Action Task Force, Gardaí from Dundalk assisted by the Northern Regional Armed Support Unit and officers from the Department of Revenue carried out a search of a warehouse at Knockbridge, Co Louth early this morning, Saturday 30th March, 2019.

"As a result of the search Gardaí have uncovered a alcohol bottling plant and a cigarette manufacturing factory. 

"This factory had the capability of producing cigarettes and alcohol with an estimated loss of €25million euro to the exchequer.

"No arrests were made during the search and investigations are ongoing."
