Gardai seize a number of vehicles for no insurance as part of Christmas safety initiative

Gardai seized a number of vehicles at various checkpoints in north Dublin just days before Christmas.

A total of four vehicles were seized for no insurance in the Fingal West, Meakstown area yesterday.

A number of people were apprehended for traffic and drug driving offences as part of the High Visibility Day of Action between 3 pm and 9 pm.

Along with foot and mountain bike patrols, three checkpoints were placed aiming to “bring a sense of safety and security to the general public whilst out doing their Christmas shopping,'' a garda spokesman said.

He said: “Foot and mountain bike patrols, a total of three checkpoints were conducted and Community Gardaí along with probationer Gardaí (Open City), distributed flyers to motorists highlighting the dangers associated with the illegal use of scrambler motorcycles on public roads and also the danger of buying these high powered motorcycles for children at Christmas time.

“This proved extremely effective and the feedback from the general public was that of support and appreciation towards An Garda Siochána for their efforts.

“A number of traffic and drugs offences were detected along with the seizure of four vehicles for no insurance and court proceedings will follow.

“This initiative was run by the Community Policing office at Finglas Garda Station with the assistance of Roads Policing Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.”
