Gardai seize €800,000 worth of cannabis and arrest man on M9 motorway in Carlow

Gardai have arrested a man after seizing a staggering haul of €800,000 worth of suspected cannabis in Carlow.

Officers stopped a van travelling southbound on the M9 at approximately 5.40pm on Thursday evening as part of a routine traffic operation.

While searching the vehicle, gardaí discovered a massive amount of cannabis herb (pending analysis) in vacuum packaging.

The drugs have an estimated street value of €800,000.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: "The driver of the van, a man aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Carlow Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996."
