Two women were arrested on Monday on suspicion of money laundering after gardai seized €50,000 in cash in Laois.
Shortly after 2pm gardaí stopped a car on the M7 motorway in Co Laois and recovered the cash.
The occupants of the car, two females in their 20s and 30s, were arrested.
A Garda spokeswoman said: “Both are detained at Portlaoise Garda station.”
The women are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and can be held for up to 24 hours.
The operation involved Laois based Divisional Roads Policing and local Garda Units.
Investigations are ongoing.
