Gardai seize €1m in cash as they target 'organised crime group'

The Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, assisted by the Garda Dog Unit, have today seized over €1 million in cash.

The significant haul was discovered after two premises were searched in North Dublin and the Dublin city centre area.

The operation was part of a targeted investigation into suspected criminal activities of an organised crime group.

Two premises were searched during the course of the operation and a number of vehicles were seized.

During the search of one vehicle, a large quantity of cash was discovered. The vehicle and its contents remain the subject of examination. However, the amount seized is believed to exceed €1 million.

Gardaí have said that investigations are continuing.

In a separate investigation, Gardai seized €117,000 in cash, a vehicle and a Rolex watch after storming a house in Dublin yesterday.

The raid took place at a property in the Coolock area of the city on Saturday.

Officers from the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau carried out the bust with the support of the Garda Dog Unit.

During the search, gardai found €117,000 in cash, along with one vehicle and a Rolex watch.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of involvement in a money-laundering related offence.

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, head of Organised and Serious Crime, said: "We continue to target those causing the most harm in our community.

"This seizure of a significant quantity of cash will, we believe, contribute to the disruption and potential ultimate dismantling of particular organised crime groups that we continue to target, building on earlier success achieved, in recent years."
