Gardai search Limerick sports ground over allegations of match fixing

A Limerick sports ground has been searched in a major garda probe into allegations of match fixing.

Members of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB), formerly known as the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation, swooped on the sports facility on Tuesday evening.

Detectives from the GNECB - based in Harcourt Square in Dublin - were supported by gardai attached to the Limerick Division for the planned operation.

A garda spokeswoman stated: “Gardaí can confirm a search took place on the evening of Tuesday 3rd September, 2019 in Limerick at a sports ground.”

“An ongoing investigation is taking place and members from a national unit and local members conducted the search.”

Gardai remained tight lipped on details relating to the investigation, however it’s understood documentation and electronic devices were seized, as part of the search operation.

“Investigations are ongoing,” the garda spokeswoman said.
