Gardai are investigating after a woman's body was removed from a popular south Dublin bathing spot on Wednesday morning.
The Dublin Coast Guard was alerted after a member of the public spotted clothing at the Half Moon bathing area on South Bull Wall.
A major search operation was launched as gardai rushed to the scene.
Sadly, the body of the woman, aged in her 40s, was spotted by the RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station crew after a short while.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to an incident Great South Wall in Ringsend, Co.Dublin yesterday morning, 11th August 2021.
"The body of a woman aged in her 40s was removed from the water by the Coastguard. The body has since been removed to Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem is due to take place at a later date."
A Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard spokesperson said: "Dublin Coast Guard received a call from a member of the public regarding clothing located at Half Moon bathing area on South Bull Wall. A Coast Guard team responded to investigate.
"Upon arrival, a search began immediately having received new information from members of An Garda Síochána on scene. RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILB arrived on scene to assist with the search.
"After a short period of time, a casualty was located by RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILb crew but sadly deceased.
"Our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. May they Rest in Peace.
"Remember if you see anyone in difficulty in or near the water, dial 112/999 or call VHF channel 16 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard."
