Drogheda crash: Man dies after car smashes into tree in Co Louth

A 29-year-old man has died after the car his was driving left the road and smashed into a tree in Louth.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the single-car crash in Drogheda, shortly before 11pm on Thursday.

The collision occurred on Carstown Road, Drogheda, when the car left the road a struck a tree. The driver - who was the sole occupant of the car - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene was examined by forensic collision investigators and the local coroner has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

They are particularly appealing to road users who were travelling in the Ballymackenny Road and Carstown Road areas at the time of the crash and to those with camera footage, including dash cam, to contact them.

On Thursday, they attended a memorial at NUI Galway where Karzan had studied for his PhD in Agriculture.

The service was attended by Karzan’s NUIG colleagues along with members of the Irish Kurdish community.
