A young boy has been knocked down and seriously injured in a housing estate in Co Longford this afternoon.
The child is understood to have been struck by a van in the Ardnacassa estate area of town shortly before 3pm.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene to tend to the stricken boy who has since been rushed to hospital.
The scene itself has since been cordoned off pending a full technical examination.
No further details of the child's injuries are available at this time.
