Gardai rush to scene as man knocked unconscious in brutal group attack in Dublin

A man was rushed to hospital after being assaulted by a group of people in Dublin on Monday night.

The incident happened in the Fairview Strand area on Dublin's northside at around 11.10pm.

Gardai said they received a report that a man was assaulted by a "number of individuals" in the area.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where the man, who is aged in his 60s, was found in an "unconscious state".

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident.

He is currently being held at Clontarf Garda Station.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault which occurred at Fairview Strand, Dublin 3, late yesterday evening, 7th June 2021.

"At approximately 11:10pm Gardaí received report that a man had been assaulted by a number of individuals on Fairview Strand and attended the scene.

"A male aged in his 60s was discovered in an unconscious state and was taken from the scene by emergency services to the Mater Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

"A male in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Clontarf Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"This investigation is ongoing."
