Gardai rush to scene as man fights for life after horror crash between van and bike

A man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a van while cycling in Co Meath.

The incident happened on the Navan Road in Trim at around 4pm on Tuesday.

Officers said that a man in his 60s who was riding a bicycle at the time of the collision was brought to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

It is understood that his injuries were critical.

Gardai closed the road for a short period but it has now reopened.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí attended the scene of a traffic collision that occurred between a van and bicycle on the Navan Road, Trim, at approximately 4pm yesterday, 19th October 2021.

"A man in his 60s (cyclist) was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown to be treated for injuries sustained as a result of this incident.

"The road was closed for a time following the collision and is now re-opened for use."
