Gardai rush to scene as man dies after being pulled from River Barrow in Co Carlow

A man has died after being pulled from the River Barrow in Co Carlow.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Wednesday night.

Officers and emergency services rushed to the scene at the Quay near Carlow Boat Club.

A 50-year-old man was recovered from the water and treated at the scene.

He was rushed by ambulance to St Luke's Hospital where tragically he was later pronounced dead.

A file is expected to be prepared for the Coroner, but gardai are not currently treating the incident as suspicious.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and Emergency Services attended at the Quay at Carlow Boat Club, Carlow shortly before 9pm on Wednesday 17th November 2021 following reports of a man in the river Barrow.

"A 50-year-old man was recovered from the river a short time later. He was treated at the scene before being removed by ambulance to St Luke’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A file will now be prepared for the Coroner."
