Gardai rush to scene as man dies after being hit by car in horror crash in Co Kildare

A man died after being hit by a car in Co Kildare in the early hours of the morning.

The incident happened in Mainham shortly after midnight on the R407 road between Clane and Kilcock.

Officers rushed to the scene after a man aged in his 60s who had been walking in the area was hit by a car.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Naas mortuary.

A post mortem is expected to take place in the coming days.

Nobody else was injured in the incident.

And the R407 is currently closed as Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene, with local diversions in place.

Officers have also launched an appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward with information.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí in Naas are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling on the R407 (Clane to Kilcock road) between 11.45pm last night and 12.15am this morning, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
