Gardai rush to scene after man found with 'stab wounds' in middle of busy Irish town

A man has been arrested following an apparent stabbing incident in Kildare yesterday which has left another man in a serious condition in hospital.

Gardai rushed to the scene at Thomas Street in Newbridge at around 7.30pm on Wednesday night where a man in his 30s was found to have apparent stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and later taken to hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

He is said to be in a serious but stable condition in St James' Hospital.

A man also aged in his 30s was arrested shortly after in the Newbridge area.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Newbridge Garda Station. He can be held for up to 24 hours.

The scene was preserved overnight and will be examined by local scenes of crime officers this morning.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

They are particularly appealing to those with camera footage (including dashcam) from the Main Street or Thomas Street areas of Newbridge at the time of the incident to make it available to them.
