Gardai reveal details of operation that led to €4million drug seizure

Gardai intercepted two cars in separate searches before raiding a commercial premises during their massive €4million drugs bust yesterday.

Two men, aged in their 50s and 20s, were arrested after the two operations in Dublin on Friday. 

In the first, a car was intercepted in Ballyfermot and during the search, approximately 20 kilos of diamorphine and cocaine were seized. 

The younger man was arrested and is currently being detained at Clondalkin Garda Station.

The second operation saw a car being stopped at Parkwest Road, Ballyfermot which was subsequently searched where 22.5kilos of diamorphine and cocaine were discovered.

The 51-year-old man was arrested in connection with this separate investigation and is detained at Clondalkin Garda Station also. 

In a follow up search at a commercial premises in the Kylemore Industrial Estate, around 1.8 kilos of Cannabis resin was discovered.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau carried out two searches in the Clondalkin and Ballyfermot areas of Dublin this evening, Friday September 27 2019.

"During the course of the searches, Heroin and Cocaine (subject to analysis) was seized  with an estimated street value of €4m.

"Two men have been arrested and are currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 – Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996."
