Gardai recover three stolen wax heads after bizarre attempted robbery from National Wax Museum in Dublin

Gardai have recovered three stolen wax heads following a bizarre attempted robbery at the National Wax Museum in Dublin.

The incident unfolded yesterday just before 2.30pm when a supervisor at the museum chased down the thief after a call from a member of the public.

With the help of gardai from Pearse Street station, they recovered the stolen heads which are understood to be worth thousands of euro, Dublin Live reports.

A garda spokesman wrote on Twitter: "‘Where ye ‘heading’ with that’...3 wax heads stolen
yesterday from the Wax Museum in Dublin.

"2 recovered by staff with assistance from members of the public.

"Gardaí from Pearse St stopped male & female with the 3rd wax head. Both arrested & HEADING to court."

The snatch-and-go robbery was also spotted by someone nearby who got in touch with the Museum's social media page.

They wrote to the page saying: "I was just on O'Connell Street and I saw a guy with two wax heads he'd stolen. Saw your staff trying to get them back. Hope they get them back safe."

Marketing Manager with the National Wax Museum Laoise Keaveney said: "We were very surprised as a member of the public rang us and we even received a message through on social media from a member of the public passing by who spotted it and hoped we'd get them back.

"The exhibitions are very important to the Museum and they're Irish art pieces so they're invaluable really. We're just happy to get them back."
