Gardai recover gun after it was picked up by two children in west Dublin estate

An investigation is underway after two innocent kids picked up a gun outside a housing estate in West Dublin.

It's understood that the firearm was found by children in Castlecurragh Heath, Mulhuddart, where a man was seriously injured in a shooting just five days ago.

A five-year-old child first picked up the gun before they dropped it and another kid then found it and began to scream, raising the alarm.

An adult nearby was then alerted then gardai were called, Dublin Live reports.

"Investigations are at an early stage and are ongoing."

Last Saturday a man was seriously injured after being shot twice in the stomach in the same estate.

He was rushed to Connolly Hospital in a serious condition after the blast which happened in broad daylight as kids were out playing around 5.30pm.

A car was later found burnt out in nearby Hunstown while gardai saying the investigation is still ongoing.
