The body of a woman in her 50s has been found after a search operation in the early hours of Monday morning.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene at Lough Mask in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo.
They were responding to reports of a car entering the water of the lake.
After carrying out searches, the body of a woman was later removed from the water just before 5am.
Her remains have been taken to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place in due course.
It is understood that gardai do not suspect any foul play in the incident.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and a number of emergency service units were alerted to a report of a car having entered the water at Lough Mask in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, this morning, Monday 25th October 2021.
"Following searches, the body of a woman (50s) was later removed from the water just before 5am.
"Her body will now be taken to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place in due course."
It comes after a woman's body was also found in Lough Columbkille near Ballyshannon, Co Donegal on Sunday.
Gardai say they are investigating "all the circumstances" surrounding the discovery.
The woman, who is understood to be in her 30s, was reported missing from Cashelard in Co Donegal on Saturday night.
Gardai, the coast guard and volunteers from the Rescue 118 helicopter service were involved in the search for the woman.
The land, sea and air probe began on Saturday and recommenced at first light on Sunday morning.
Gardai confirmed on Sunday afternoon that a woman's body had been found in Lough Columbkille and the woman's body was taken to Sligo General Hospital where a post mortem will take place.
