Gardai are probing to see if a vicious assault on a man is linked to a feud between gangs in the capital.
The incident saw thugs pounce on and attack a rival on Townsend Street, in central Dublin, at around Monday tea-time.
The victim, who is in his 20s and known to gardai, was brought to the Mater Hospital where he is being treated for what are described as “serious but non-life-threatening injuries”.
Investigators are now examining if the attack is linked to a dispute in the south inner city that began over a drugs deal. Last year, it saw the two gangs involved in a violent street brawl.
On that occasion, the group believed to be behind Monday’s attack – and who also have links to Finglas thug Mr Flashy – targeted the rival faction who then retaliated.
But gardai now fearing tensions will now ramp up between the groups.
A source said: “There is a strong possibility that this was linked to the same feud.
“This individual was badly injured. The crews involved are volatile and dangerous and there’s no doubt that more incidents could well follow.”
Gardai are urging anyone with information about Monday’s incident to get in contact – anonymously if they wish via the Confidential Line.
A spokesman said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. We are particularly appealing to any road users who were in the area between 6.30pm and 7.15pm on Monday and who may have camera [dash cam] footage to make it available.
“Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda station on 01 666 9000, the freephone Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
