Gardai probing if Kerry hotel broke Covid rules after claims 400 people gathered for concert

Gardai are probing if a popular hotel in Kerry has breached Covid rules after it was claimed 400 people gathered inside for a pop concert.

Officers in Killarney are making enquiries after a resident staying at the Gleneagle Hotel said she witnessed 400 people at a gig in the INEC on September 19.

When contacted by the Irish Mirror last week, a spokesperson for the hotel said they complied with Failte Ireland guidelines, citing attendance numbers were linked to the capacity of the premises.

But the Government department responsible for Arts and Tourism stated no facility could have an indoor gathering for a concert with more than 100 people – as per the current Living With Covid plan – until further guidance has been developed for large venues.

The Gleneagle would not comment on how many people attended.

The hotel did not respond to queries when asked if they would limit concerts to 100 people following the Government’s response.

Gardai have confirmed to the Irish Mirror they are making enquiries.

A spokesperson said: “Gardai in Killarney are making enquiries into these reports.

“If/where gardai find potential breaches of the public health regulations, a file is prepared for
the DPP in each case.”

Gardai said the pandemic remains a public health crisis and appealed to citizens to comply with guidelines.
