Gardai probe mystery disappearance as man spotted on CCTV before car abandoned in remote village

Gardai are searching for a missing man last seen on CCTV before his car was found abandoned in a remote village.

Officers are appealing for the public's help in finding 32-year-old Stephen Cunningham who is missing from Ballybrit, Co Galway.

Stephen was last seen when he was caught on CCTV at Gannons Filling Station, Belclare, Westport, on November 5, and again at Dunnes Stores, Briar Hill, Galway, on November 6.

Stephen was wearing a waist length cream/ beige hooded jacket, blue jeans and beige shoes.

On November 10 Stephen's car, a silver Volkswagen Passat with a registration number of 08-G-3521, was found at Bunnakill, Maam Cross, Co Galway.

Officers believe the car may have been parked there since November 7.

Gardai are now carrying out an "extensive multi-agency search" of this area.

And they are calling on anyone who may have information about Stephen's whereabouts to come forward to Galway garda station with information.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are seeking the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 32 year old Stephen Cunningham who is missing from Ballybrit, Galway.

"Gardaí and Stephen's family are concerned for his welfare.

"An Garda Síochána are appealing to landowners in the Bunnakill, Maam Cross area to check any sheds, outhouses or other remote buildings on their land.

"Any person with any information on Stephen's whereabouts are asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
