Gardai praised for helping woman with flat tyre on way to hospital with sick child

The actions of two kind gardaí have been praised after they assisted a mother who ran into difficulty with a flat tyre while rushing her sick child to the hospital.

Waterford Gardaí Flynn and Suffin were on patrol on the outer ring road in Waterford, when they were flagged down by a motorist who said she was on route to hospital with her ill child when she got a flat tyre.

Gardaí drove the lady and her son to hospital, after which Gardaí Flynn and Suffin then returned to the vehicle and changed the flat tyre on the car for them.

Following the kind gesture, the woman with the flat tyre, Klara Prud'homme said: "These two Gardaí came to my rescue just at the right time. The way in which they helped with such kindness, calmness and understanding was a credit to them."

The Dungarvan resident said that many people would help in this situation of course they would but these two officers were a credit to An Garda Síochána Waterford/Kilkenny/Carlow.

"I am so grateful to them and want them to know that my little man is on the mend and is still talking about his first spin in a paddy wagon," she added.

The post has received an outpouring of kind comments in admiration for the goodwill of the gardaí involved.

One woman recalled her own experience in a similar situation.

She said: "Two lovely gardaí helped me out in Waterford city last year when I broke down opposite Tower Hotel in morning rush hour on the road. I was getting terrible abuse from cyclists as my car was pushed back in towards the footpath - enough to let vehicles past."

The commenter said she was "so embarrassed" at the behaviour dished out to me by the cyclists.

"The Gardai came back a few times to check that I was OK. They were fantastic!" she added.

Another commenter wrote: "Well done lads. There's still great guys left. Nice to be able to praise the Garda. Tough job they have."
