Gardai nab unaccompanied learner driver speeding at 185km/h in Portlaoise

An unaccompanied learner driver was caught speeding at 185km/h by gardai in Co Laois.

Officers from Portlaoise Roads Policing Unit also discovered the driver had no tax, insurance or NCT displayed.

The motorist's car was seized and the driver was charged.

Meanwhile, in Meath, a Roads Policing Unit detected a car driving 103kph over the speed limit while conducting speed checks on the M3 motorway on Wednesday morning.

The motorist was clocked driving at a staggering 223km/h in dangerous conditions.

A garda spokesperson said: "Road conditions were wet and greasy. Proceedings are underway for the offending driver."

And in Kildare, gardai stopped a car after a member of the public reported dangerous driving on the New Road at Inch in Athy. 

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí would like to remind people to please respect the speed limit and if you see someone engaged in dangerous driving to alert your local Gardaí."
