A motorist was caught breaking the speed limit by more than 60km/h in Co Offaly.

The driver was nabbed while they travelled at a speed of 163km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Gardai stopped the BMW 520 vehicle as it drove on the M4 in Mullingar.

A garda tweet said: "Mullingar Roads Policing Unit detected BMW 520 traveling at 163km - 100km zone on the N4 Mullingar. FCPN to be issued."

Meanwhile, as Met Eireann continues to forecast scorching temperatures, gardai have urged road-users to take extra care.

"Above all mind each other and enjoy the weather!!"
