Gardai nab learner motorcyclist who smashed speed limit by 80km/h on Limerick road

A learner driver was nabbed after they were clocked breaking the speed limit by 80km/h on a motorbike.

The motorcyclist was stopped by gardai after they were detected travelling at 179km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Officers from the Limerick Roads Policing Unit stopped the rider, before discovering they only had a learner permit.

A garda tweet said: "Limerick Roads Policing Unit: Motorcyclist stopped yesterday, rider only had a learner permit and detected at 179km/h in 100km/h zone. FCPN issued and proceedings to follow."

Meanwhile, another learner driver was caught weaving in and out of traffic while driving ahead of an unmarked garda car.

The motorist, who was uninsured, was seen by gardai cutting across other road user.

A tweet said: "Driver observed weaving in & out of traffic and cutting across other road users all the while being behind our unmarked patrol car.

"Car stopped and driver found to be a learner permit holder who was unaccompanied and had no insurance. Car seized, court to follow."
