Gardai nab Dublin drivers breaking speed limits as over 120 motorists caught on National Slow Down Day

Over 120 motorists found themselves in hot water as gardai set up over 1,300 checkpoints across Ireland.

One driver in Tymon North, Tallaght was caught doing 130km/h in a 100km/h while another was found driving at the speed of 64km/h in a 50km/h on Rock Road in Booterstown.

Officers checked the speed of a whopping 24,922 vehicles and detected 123 vehicles going over the speed limit in the first two hours this morning on National Slow Down Day.

Chief Superintendent Michael Hennebry Garda National Roads Policing Bureau said: "Firstly I would like to thank the majority of those who travel within the speed limits.

"However, our enforcement operations continue to detect motorists traveling at speeds significantly above the posted speed limits.

"This reckless behaviour poses a serious risk not just to the motorists themselves, but to all the road users, especially vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists. This is not just about speeding enforcement detections. It's about saving lives."
