Gardai make huge drug sting as man in van arrested after cocaine haul at Dublin checkpoint

Gardai made a huge drug sting on Monday evening as one man in a van was arrested after officers discovered €117,000 worth of cocaine in a vehicle at a Dublin checkpoint.

The arrested man, in his 30s, was stopped on the Outer Ring road in Clondalkin at around 6pm as part of a routine check.

Suspicious officers carried out a search of the vehicle he was in and discovered 1.7kg of cocaine.

He was arrested at the scene and taken to Ronanstown Garda Station where he is currently being detained.

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "We have arrested a man and seized €117,000 worth of cocaine following a search of a vehicle at a checkpoint that was being carried out on the Outer Ring Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on 18 May.



"At approximately 6pm, Gardaí stopped the man in his van at the checkpoint. We carried out a search of the van under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84. During the course of this search, approximately 1.7kg of cocaine was discovered."



He added: "The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Ronanstown Garda Station where he is detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996."
