Gardai make arrest during investigation into Giedre Raguckaite disappearance over three years ago

Gardai have arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of a woman over three years ago.

Giedre Raguckaite disappeared from Dundalk, Co Louth on May 29, 2018

That day, the 29-year-old made contact with a friend and at about 6.30pm called her father in Lithuania.

She explained that she had been in a hotel that day for dinner and was socialising.

She was seen being helped into a house in Laytown, Co Meath, that night at 11pm by two men.

She was seen leaving the house with these men at 1.45am on May 30, but hasn't been seen since.

However, on Monday, Gardai confirmed they had arrested a man in connection with Giedre's disappearance.

A spokesperson said: "Gardai in Dundalk investigating the disappearance of Giedre Raguckaite in May, 2018 have this morning Monday, January 10, 2022 arrested a man.

"He was arrested and is currently detained at a Garda station in the midlands pursuant to a warrant under Section 42, Criminal Justice Act, 2006. He can be detained for up to 24 hours."

Speaking to the Irish Daily Star in 2019, Giedre's sister Gintare pleaded with the Irish public: “Instead of Giedre, this could easily have been your sister or daughter.

“Please think of our invalid father who is losing hope.”

Gintare added that she had lost her mother at a young age and the family doesn’t know if her father will “survive the tragedy”.
