Gardai launch witness appeal after body parts discovered in bag in Coolock

Gardai have appealed for witnesses following the discovery of human body parts at a north Dublin housing estate.

The grim discovery was made shortly before 10pm last night at the junction of Moatview Gardens and Drive in Coolock .

The bag and remains are still at the scene this morning pending the arrival of the Garda Technical Bureau. 

The Office of the State Pathologist and the Coroner have been notified and gardai are continuing to identify the body parts with the assistance of Forensic Science Ireland.

A garda spokeswoman asked anyone who is concerned for a loved one they have not heard from for a number of days to contact them at Coolock garda station.

She added: "Gardai wish to speak with any person who may have been in the Moatview Gardens/Drive area of Coolock or in any adjoining roads between 9.30pm and 10pm last night Monday 13th January, 2020.

"In particular Gardaí are seeking assistance from all road users who may have dashcam footage in their vehicles which may assist investigating Gardaí and any assistance any person may have can contact Gardaí in Coolock Garda station on 01 - 6664200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
