Gardai launch search operation after car found 'submerged in water' off the coast of Cork

Gardaí have launched an investigation after underwater divers located a car in the water off the coast of Cork.

The discovery was made yesterday evening near Hugh Coveney Pier in Crosshaven.

Gardaí were alerted immediately to the find and the scene is currently preserved.

Special officers from the Garda Water Unit are conducting a search operation today.

A Garda spokeswoman said:" Gardaí are investigating the discovery of car found submerged in the water near Hugh Coveney Pier in Crosshaven, Co. Cork.

"The car was discovered by divers yesterday evening, Wednesday 26th May 2021 and Gardaí were notified. The scene is currently preserved and the Garda Water Unit are conducting a search operation today.

"Gardaí are continuing their enquiries to establish the identity of this vehicle."
