Gardai launch search as 'car drives over pier' at Carlingford, Co Louth

A search is underway after reports of a car being driven over a pier in a seaside Co Louth town.

The Garda Water Unit is carrying out the operation after the alert was made on Thursday evening.

Gardai and emergency services are at the scene in Carlingford.

It's understood nothing has been found and no one has been reported missing as of yet.

A garda spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí at Carlingford Co Louth are currently conducting a search operation together with other emergency services at the pier in Carlingford following a report that a car was driven over the pier, Thursday 19 December 2019. 

"There are no reports of any missing persons at this stage, the Garda Water Unit has been called to assist. Nothing has been found at this time."
