Gardai launch probe after man hospitalised following late-night assault in Mayo

Gardai have launched a probe after a man was assaulted in a shocking late-night incident on Bank Holiday Sunday.

The male, aged in his 30s, ended up in hospital after being attacked in Westport, Mayo on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at around 11.45pm on Castlebar St in the western town.

The victim was rushed to Mayo University Hospital to receive treatment.

He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A spokesman for the Gardai said:

"Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault that occurred on Castlebar St in Westport, Co Mayo at approximately 11:45pm on the 1 st of August 2021.

"One man, aged in his 30s, was conveyed to Mayo University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during the incident.

"No arrests have yet been made and investigations are ongoing at this time."
