Gardai launch manhunt as 'crazy' chase underway after incident in quiet village

A huge gardai chase was underway in a remote part of Co Limerick this Sunday morning following a dangerous driving incident.

Locals now fear that the driver of the getaway vehicle is now at large in their quiet rural community.

Several garda units, including a helicopter and armed gardai, were dispatched to the scene in Buffanoka and Kyle that lies just beyond the village of Cappamore in east Limerick at around 9.30am.

During the chase, the car, which had been caught driving dangerously in the nearby village of Murroe, crashed into a ditch and then crashed into a garda car while reversing out of it.

“The driver fled the scene on foot and the female passenger remained at the scene. No persons were injured during the incident.” a garda spokesperson said.

Reports from locals state that gardai were positioned in numerous locations in the area for the most part of the late morning and early afternoon, while a garda helicopter circled the area.

“It was just crazy,” said a local resident. “This area is extremely quiet and everyone knows everyone so to see something like this on our doorstep was such a shock."

“Rumour spread fairly fast that a man was on the run and being chased by gardai who were absolutely everywhere - even over our heads. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life.”

When asked whether the driver of the car had been located by gardai, the Irish Mirror were told that investigations were ongoing.
