Gardai launch investigation into Traveller's caravan fire in Dunmanway, Co Cork

Gardai are investigating an incident in which a caravan belonging to travellers was burned in Dunmanway, Co Cork.

Over the June bank holiday weekend, it emerged that a number of travellers returned to their Dunmanway home to discover that their caravan had been burned - with everything they owned inside.

Joyce Bernard, Director of the Irish Traveller Movement, has set up a GoFundMe page through which donations can be made to the family, Cork Beo reports.

While a "coordinated approach" began on Tuesday, members of the community have been urged to do anything they can to help out.

"They need support now," a statement on the Irish Traveller Movement's official Facebook page reads.

"We would ask the community to reach out and support, deliver two tents, bedding tonight a small caravan, if, someone isn't using any other utilities."

Dunmanway Gardai confirmed via email on Tuesday afternoon that they are looking into the incident.

A spokesperson said: "The Gardai at Dunmanway are aware of this incident which is being investigated."
