A man's body has been found in a quiet Kerry town.
The discovery was made in the Tanavalla area of Listowel on Tuesday afternoon.
Gardai have launched an investigation and said they are probing "all circumstances" surrounding the discovery.
The body has been brought to University Hospital Kerry.
Dr Margot Bolster from the Office of the State Pathologist is due to carry out a post-mortem later on Wednesday.
Officers said that the outcome of this will determine the course of the investigation.
A Garda spokesman said: "Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body in the Tanavalla area of Listowel, Co. Kerry on Tuesday, January 4,2022.
"The body of the man has since been removed to University Hospital Kerry and a post-mortem will take place in due course. The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.
"Enquires are ongoing and a post-mortem is due to be carried out by Dr Bolster, Office of the State Pathologist, at UHK later today."
