Gardai launch investigation after ATM stolen in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan

An investigation is underway after an ATM was stolen in Co Monaghan overnight.

A digger was used in the robbery which took place at around 3am on the Main Street in Castleblayney.

The street has been closed off and no one was injured in the incident.

The AIB cash machine was removed from the wall before being placed in a trailer which was towed by a dark coloured jeep.

A garda spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardai in Castleblaney are investigating the theft of an ATM on Main Street at approximately 3am this morning.

"A digger removed the ATM from the wall before loading it onto a trailer being towed by a dark coloured jeep. The jeep left in the direction of the Oram Road."

Thieves steal ATM using digger from family run business in Co Antrim  

It comes just two days after another digger was used to steal an ATM in Co Antrim on Monday morning.

The incident was described as "disgraceful" by authorities. The digger had been stolen from a building site and then torched at the scene.

At around 3:25am Monday morning, thieves used a stolen digger to rip an ATM from the side wall of a Nisa convenience store on Brook Street, in Ahoghill.
