Gardai launch appeal as young woman seriously assaulted in 'disturbing' attack in Dundalk, Co Louth

A young woman was seriously assaulted by a man while she was out walking in Dundalk, Co Louth.

The woman, in her early 20s, was attacked by a man between the Newry Road and the Inner Relief Road on Thursday evening.

He attacked her from behind before fleeing on foot and heading north on the Inner Relief Road.

Gardai are now appealing to anyone who was in the area at around 7.40pm when the "disturbing" attack occurred to come forward.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault that occurred on the Táin walk which connects the Newry Road and the Inner Relief Road, Dundalk.

"Gardaí are further seeking any drivers of vehicles or cyclists with dash cam footage who were in the Newry Road or the Inner Relief road at the Táin Bridge area at this time to check their dash cams footage and contact Dundalk Garda station."

Gardaí are appealing for any person who witnessed the incident or with any information to contact them at Dundalk  Garda station on  042 - 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
