A young man is in a critical condition after a serious late-night assault in Co Meath.
The victim, 21, was seriously injured in the incident in Navan at 3am on Saturday.
He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.
Gardai in Navan are appealing to motorists in the area at the time and witnesses of the assault to come forward.
A spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Navan are investigating a serious assault which occurred at Watergate Street, Navan.
"The scene has been preserved and a Garda Technical examination has taken place.
"Gardaí are appealing for any persons who were in Watergate Street area between 2.45am and 3.30am and who may have witnessed the assault or any motorists who may have passed through Watergate Street around those times and have Dashcam footage to contact Navan Garda Station on 046 - 9036100, The Garda Confidential Line 18000 666 111 or any Garda Station."
