Gardai launch appeal as man critical after being shot several times in Co Waterford

Gardai have launched an appeal for information after a man was shot several times in Co Waterford.

A man, in his 30s, remains in a critical condition in hospital after he was gunned down on the Carrickphierish Road at around 2.15pm on Monday.

He was initially treated at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Waterford.

The scene is currently preserved for examination and the road remains closed with local diversions in place.

An incident room has been established at Waterford Garda Station where a case conference was held by investigators on Monday evening.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are examining all circumstances surrounding this incident today. No arrests have been made and enquires are ongoing.

"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Carrickphierish Road area, near the Mount Suir Apartments, between 1pm and 2.30pm to come forward.

"They are particularly appealing to motorists with camera footage (including dashcam) from the area to make it available to investigators.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
