Gardai issue warning to the public over bogus bank phone calls

Gardai have issued a warning to the public to be wary of scammers targeting people by phone.

The fraudsters are making phone calls claiming to be from the Bank of Ireland Fraud Team and asking for personal details.

Gardai took to social media to advise anyone who has been targeted by the calls not to give out any personal information.

They said: "An Garda Síochána would like to remind the public to be wary of any contact from an unsolicited source, whether by telephone or email.

"Do not give out your credit/debit card or bank account details. Financial institutions will never contact you and ask for your PPS number or bank account details."
