Gardai issue urgent checkpoint update ahead of weekend as lockdown to be eased

Gardai are asking motorists to remember key Covid procedures when stopped at checkpoints this weekend.

Level Five remains in place until December 1 and Operation Fanacht checkpoints will be scattered nationwide.

Officers are urging people to let them know if they are stopped at a checkpoint and heading to get a Covid test.

To keep Gardai safe, the best procedure is to keep your window up and hold the appointment slip up.

This way anyone who is Covid positive will not spread the virus to the Gardai.

A garda spokesperson said: "Remember if travelling to have a #COVID19 test, and stopped at a Garda checkpoint please keep your windows closed and display your #COVID19 test details through the window. Let’s keep everyone safe."

Garda powers will remain in place even after lockdown ends with people still not allowed leave their county until December 18.
