Gardai issue update on tragic Kanturk shooting that saw father and two sons killed

The post-mortems on a father and two sons found dead after a suspected murder-suicide have now been completed.

Gardai issued a statement this evening confirming that the results have been given to investigating officers, but would not be made public.

The bodies of Tadgh O'Sullivan and his sons Mark and Diarmuid were found on the family farm in Co Cork on Monday.

It emerged earlier this morning that a 12-page note was found on the body of Diarmuid.

Gardai are investigating the possibility that the killing of Mark O'Sullivan may have been planned by his brother and father beforehand.

Mark was found dead in his bedroom in Kanturk early on Monday morning, having died from gunshot woods.

His father and brother were later found dead in a nearby field.

The apparent note has been described as lengthy and detailed.

Gardai are still piecing together the sequence of events that ended in bloodshed at the remote farm in Kanturk, Co Cork.

Two autopsies were conducted on Tuesday to try to establish how 59-year-old Tadgh O’Sullivan and his sons Mark, 26, and 23-year-old Diarmuid lost their lives.

After the three post-mortem exams were conducted on Wednesday, a garda spokesman said: "The post mortem on all three of the deceased men has now been completed.

"The results of the post mortem have been given to investigating Gardaí, details of which will not be disclosed.

"A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Coroner.

"No further details are available."
