Gardai issue update on mum and two kids found dead in Dublin as murder investigation launched

Gardai have launched a murder investigation after a mum and her two children were found dead at a house in Dublin.

Affira Syed, 11, six-year-old Fazam and their mother Seema Banu Syed were discovered in a house in Llewellyn Court, Ballinteer on Wednesday, shortly before 12pm.

The post-mortems for all three victims were carried out on Friday, with gardai now upgrading their investigation to murder.

While the results of the examinations are not being made public, the Irish Mirror understands the victims were strangled to death.

A garda spokesman said: "Following the completion of Post Mortem examinations, Gardaí from Dundrum Garda Station have commenced a murder investigation into all the circumstances of the events that occurred at a domestic dwelling at Llywellen Court, Ballinteer.

"Details of the Post Mortem results are not being released for operational reasons.

"No arrests have been made at this time.

"Gardai continuing to interview witnesses, conduct extensive door to door enquiries and gather and examine all relevant CCTV.

"An Garda Síochána appeals to any person with any information in respect of these deaths to contact the investigation team at Dundrum Garda Station 01-6665600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

"Investigating Gardaí continue to advise that some current uninformed speculation circulating in public is unhelpful to this criminal investigation.

"An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time and a Garda spokesperson is not available."

Sources told the Irish Mirror the three victims may have been dead for several days before the grim discovery was made.

Neighbours alerted gardai when the family, who are originally from India, hadn’t been seen recently.

Officers from an Armed Support Unit forced their way into the house and made the horrific find.

Detectives immediately sealed off the house, declaring it a crime scene and began a massive manhunt.

A photo of the suspect, who was known to the dead woman, was circulated to Garda stations, with a warning the fugitive might be armed and dangerous.

A man later presented himself at a Garda station accompanied by a solicitor and is helping with inquiries.
